Raiding the larder of ideas.

What one family eats, plans to eat, dreams of eating. Plus, other food and kitchen-related stuff from the home of steak-and-potatoes, pie and fresh green beans from the garden.

A piquant option: South of the Border

Here's another foray into the archives, this time only going back until my late adolescence. This little item was published in 1979, for missionary fund-raising purposes. I think either The Bat or I picked it up at auction, & the more I look through it, the more I want to head down into the kitchen and ruin my diet…

It was printed, basically, on construction paper, so it's clearly crumbling about as rapidly as any paper product can (not to mention, the staples holding it together had started to rust, so I did my best to remove them without too much more damage to the pages).

Other than that, it's as basic an operation as one can get. No illustrations, so you have to use your imagination and experience to excite those taste buds, but you really should go for it.

As usual, click on any image to embiggen enough to read, and please share/copy what you like.

Biscuit Stars: HT Take a Trick a Day w/Bisquick (part 1 of 2: pp. 1 - 19)

Some of my favorite movies are from around the time this cookbook was published.  I'm not convinced, though, that this will guarantee some of my favorite dishes will come from this era (or this cookbook, really), but there are some interesting menu ideas here, nonetheless.

Especially if you're a fan of quick-and-easy carbs.

There's a scant handful of recipes at the end of this booklet, too (you can find them in the second half of this posting, here).

I look at this & think that two bits was a lot of money, back then – or even now, for that matter – to spend for six pages of recipes & a mess o' pix of people I'd never meet.
