Raiding the larder of ideas.

What one family eats, plans to eat, dreams of eating. Plus, other food and kitchen-related stuff from the home of steak-and-potatoes, pie and fresh green beans from the garden.

COOKIES! from 1958 (part 1: through pg 35)

Here's another prize from The Bat's collection of cookbooks (also probably purchased at auction over the years): 1958's Good Housekeeping's Book of Cookies.

Little paperback booklets like this are still sold as impulse items at grocery stores and supermarkets nationwide, and quickly go out of print as the next food fashion rises, which makes them collectible, to many people. Odds are, if you have one of them, you have at least a few dozen (like The Bat), and you may have used a single recipe from one of them more than once. If you scroll through my own posts below, you may find a recipe for a no-bake cookie/fudge, derived from a Pillsbury Bake-Off book published about the time I was born. I think she may have tried one other recipe from that booklet, once...

At any rate, I encourage you to seek out your own copy of any and all of the cookbooks I share, for the sheer pleasure of ownership. In the meantime, if you like what you see, please share.

CENTERFOLD

OOOoo-la-la!
I like that they made the cookies look the way any amateur baker might to them, so as to not intimidate the rookie in the kitchen. There's a time for high art in the kitchen, and this ain't it.
